Thursday Updates: Mayor, Crepes, Southeast Market, 17th Street
Thanks to everyone who has called Mayor Gray and urged him to accept the ANC invitation for a community meeting on Reservation 13. Your calls are making a difference. Please keep it up! If you have not already done so, give the Mayor’s Office a call at 202-727-6263 and urge the Mayor to participate in a community meeting on Reservation 13.
Last night, I had a chance to stop by and check out Crepes on the Corner, 257 15th St. SE. Crepes was so busy on its first day that they ran out of food and closed early. I talked with owner Marc Ross who said their plans for a “soft opening” went awry when word quickly spread that Crepes was finally open. Stop by and try it out over the next few days – its great to have a new crepe/coffee place in Hill East!
Southeast Market (1500 Independence Ave. SE) has a new owner. Late last year, Commissioner Neil Glick (6B08) and I met with the new owner, Mr. Moon, who said he planned to refurbish the store and offer prepared foods and quality gourmet groceries. I’m hopeful that the new market will be a great addition to the neighborhood.
A quick update on 17th Street SE: MPD is still working out the details of the new photo enforcement technology contract with their vendors. They hope to have the contract ready for DC Council consideration by the end of February. MPD is fully aware of ANC 6B’s request that the new technology be deployed on 17th St. SE. I’m also continuing to press DDOT to repair the fence at Barney Circle SE. I’ll keep you updated.
